Underground Club XXX Gallery to shut down in February

Two weeks ago, the live music venue announced on its Facebook that it will close on February 10, 2018. This marks another closing of indie venue in the city over recent years. Back in 2015, there were two underground music venues closed. The shut-down of XXX Gallery provokes anger and despair to plenty of independent music fans.

Again, the closing of the venue is due to the escalating rents in town. But behind the ever-increasing rental fee, there’re other hindrances, including harassment and threats from the police and district councillors, wrote XXX.

The club was established in 2011 on Wing Lok Street in Sheung Wan. It later moved to Des Voeux Road West, Sai Wan in 2013. The current location of XXX is in Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon, which the club relocated to two years ago in 2015.

As an art and music independent venue, XXX holds movie nights and sports events aside from live music performance. Its latest success ‘Space Comrade Joy Party’ by The Low Mays took place on 27-28 December, 2017 and the tickets were told out after two hours.

The club will arrange an array of special events for the last couple weekends before its closure on mid-February. For the latest events update, you can visit their Facebook page.
