It’s a fine day when you can have a cocktail, knowing it’s for charity.
Andrew Yap of Stockton is no ordinary bar manager. While he’s the affable face of Hong Kong’s most luxuriously appointed private drinking hole (just make a table reservation to get in), he’s also been working hard behind the scenes to create a real culture in the city for mixologists to swap tips and show off their creations, away from the perhaps more conservative domains of the bars they work in.
As a result, he was behind the hugely successful event at Stockton, Cocktails for Change, where he invited seven of Hong Kong’s best bartenders to lend their time for charity. Michael Callahan of 28 HK Street, Joe Villanueva of the Lobster Bar at Island Shangri-La, Fabien Marcault formerly of Honi Honi, Cherry Lam of Quinary, Sky Huo of 001 Bar, John O’Toole of Tequila Mockingbird and Tom Wood of Brand Connect all created special cocktails for the evening with 25% of the profits going to Mother’s Choice, a local charity that looks after children without families and teenage girls going through a pregnancy.
Yap loves getting the bar industry together, and has already organised a number of other special events. To find out more, have a look at the HK Bartenders Facebook page and you’ll get a chance to really experience the best cocktails Hong Kong has to offer.
