【On The Decks】Back When It All Started | Dave Clarke

A man with few words, Dave Clarke talks to us about his upcoming performance in the first addition of Sónar Hong Kong 2017. The brand has been travelling around the world for over 20 years, promoting new media technology and electronic music alike. This year it has finally made its way to Hong Kong, and we are very excited to talk to one of the main acts that’s will be performing in one of the six stages that will be blasting with electronic tunes. Dave Clarke is one of the pioneering acts that explored the genre of techno music in the early 90’s, named was one of the founders that broke out of the box of defining his own music as one sole genre, instead mixing up with different beats and hopes for his music as one that could reach to everyone out in the globe.

Stoked to be coming back to Hong Kong, Clarke has been one of the staple performers in the Sónar chain, started in 1995 in Barcelona, he is definitely not shy of any experience performing at a festival, but how does he feel about coming to Hong Kong for it’s first installation of the technology focused festival? Clarke explains “not being in Europe changes the vibe, but I think Hong Kong is culturally fit for Sónar, it will be different but charged with energy” which have been rubbing off of the DJ overtime he visits.

When discussing the vibe of the festival, Clarke suggests that it’s going to be a direct and real techno live performance sets from 11am till 3am, a whole day dedicated to the liking of all techno music, ranging from the staples of the genre to the upcoming fresh new acts, so remember to look out for brand new sounds!
