in Interviews/Music

Road to ULTRA Hong Kong 2017 will be landing in West Kowloon Nursery Park in September, fronting the stage are well-known names ZEDD, Hardwell and Kygo, we are also able to catch a glimpse of some of the up and coming acts in the EDM scene. Rezz the 22 year-old producer/ DJ is one of the star newcomers, and it was BOOM’s pleasure meeting this young talent whose landed numerous tracks with Skrillex and Deadmau5. Rezz is now getting ready to serve up her full-length debut album “Mass Manipulation”, we we’re very lucky to have talked to her about her musical direction, upcoming plans, and down-time plans.

You are just about to release your debut album, how was the process in creating ‘Mass Manipulation’?

It was fun and I didn’t know it was gonna turn into an album. I just made music like I always do and realized I loved every song and decided to make it an album.

What was the idea behind this album?

‘Mass Manipulation’ is a commentary on how easily our minds can become manipulated by the things we consume in society. We consume heavily through the media which, in turn, tries to curate our thoughts and dictate how we as humans are supposed to live and behave. This album plays off this idea and invites people to become hypnotized, allowing their brains to be manipulated by my music in the hope they might see things through a new perspective (perhaps an outer world viewpoint). One where everyone is free from the unrealistic expectations planet earth has drawn for them. A world of acceptance and hypnosis.

Other than dedicating all your time to your music, what do you like to do in your free time?

I like to chill at home with a few friends, play video games and hang out. I also enjoy going to the beach, biking, etc.

Your Mass Manipulation Tour is about to start soon, how do you feel being able to embark on a World Tour over several months?

I’m ready (I think) and I’m excited.

Any advice you’ll give to aspiring DJs?

Focus on music production first. Be passionate and authentic. Stay focused. Ignore the hate unless it’s constructive criticism that could help you grow.

Are you excited to come to Hong Kong and perform at the ROAD TO ULTRA?

Anything you want to say to your fans in Hong Kong?

Love you!
